Raising Bookaholics

I didn't think there was anything to write about for today's post until this morning. Last night read Lisa's post about being a craft book addict. I thought we can relate to that. I like to think we have a healthy library right now over 800 books. I know just nutty isn't it? We're a family that loves children's books, novels, how to books, craft and cook books. My kids loving going to the library, book sales, yard sales and used book stores. I always get good reviews from them about how much fun that was. Loving seeing even my youngest ones walking around with chapter books. Priceless book moments.

Well this morning on my way to school I spied an ecnyclopdia set on the curb next to the trash and recyclying bins. On my way way back home I decided to pull over and take a peek before the garbage collector came. I couldn't resist seeing all the that knowledge sitting there waiting to be picked up and thrown in the trash. So home they went.

I don't know where I'm going to put these and I'm curious to see what the older two kids will say? I thought it would be another option to look up information in the encyclopedia when the computer isn't turned on. Kind of how we used to look up stuff at the library. If they don't work out for our family or there isn't a spot for the whole set they will not go in the trash.

Great find! It's interesting to see how knowledge is changed--especially the geography. We had a decades-old set of encyclopedias when I was little, which we were allowed to cut up for collage projects.

Awesome save! Even if some of the info is outdated there are usually cool drawings and photos and illustrations.
I have two little bookaholics too!

What a score! I love an encyclopedia; on the way to looking something up, I always get distracted by something else interesting...a great way for kids to get inspired!

We are big family of readers too! When my parents were throwing out their encyclopedias (1972 ed)a year or two ago, I snapped them up. I have been using them for craft activities - greeting cards, wrapping paper, etc
